There is probably something very simple I am missing here but I am just curious how the relation works exactly when I have my site hosted with godaddy but my domain name (abc123.com) is registered with ipower. When I first walked thru and created an account with godaddy to have them host my site it asks what domain you are going to use and I chose "use an existing domain" which I then put in abc123.com and setup the account. This sets up the cpanel and said my site was running at server 109.180.51.85 now on GD. Does that instantly put an "a" record in godaddy's name servers that abc123.com goes to 109.180.51.85. GoDaddy then told me their 2 name servers I am to use when I log onto iPower and plug in on their site are ns65.domaincontrol.com and ns66.domaincontrol.com.
So does it work like this...someone when looking on the Internet for abc123.com are taken to iPower where I have it registered and they see the name servers I inputted there and are pointed to godaddy's names servers which will then tell them that abc123.com can be resolved to 109.180.51.85 and that's where you ultimately need to go to see the site?
I guess my main question is, why are GoDaddy's name servers inputted at the registrar's web site. Why do they have to be there. I purchased abc123.com from ipower and I now have permission to use it, seems like my business there should be done. Is it that they are the owner now of it from IANA and it stays with them and when someone searches for abc123.com it goes to ipower which then tells it to go to godaddy?
Thank you very much for your time.
