What does it mean by managed hosting?

    Post Re:

The user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is disallowed full control so that the provider can guarantee quality of service by not allowing the user to modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.

To play a game of cricket, you will need a cricket ball, which is made with a cork center wrapped in leather, as well as a bat, the paddle-like instrument used to hit the ball.

We are discussing here about web hosting not about cricket.

    John23 i agree with you,

Managed hosting means, everything will be managed by hosting provider. Anything you need to install on server, hosting provider will do it for you.

Managed hosting differs from other dedicated hosting in that the service provider administers the hardware, operating systems and system software. The client usually has administrative access but as a rule rarely uses it, instead interacting with the leased system through a Web-based interface. Typically, the hosting provider is responsible for setting up and configuring hardware, installing and configuring software, technical support, patch management, system maintenance, monitoring and updates.
Other services that may be available either as part of the hosting package or as an add-on include backups, load balancing and disaster recovery, as well as security processes including vulnerability scans, intrusion detection (ID) and DDoS (distributed denial of service) prevention and mitigation.

Managed hosting is an IT provisioning model in which a service provider leases dedicated servers and associated hardware to a single client. The equipment is at the hosting provider's facility and managed there by the service provider.

Managed hosting is nothing but an add-on to dedicated hosting. The hosting provider hardware is leased to client and maintenance,
management of servers will be handled by hosting provider itself.
