virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service. A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system, and customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.

    Hello

Let me give you the details definition of VPS hosting:

A virtual private server (VPS), also called a virtual dedicated server (VDS), is a virtual server that appears to the user as a dedicated server but is actually installed on a computer serving multiple Web sites. A single computer can have several VPSs, each one with its own operating system (OS) that runs the hosting software for a particular user.

    Now simple example:

If you have entire swimming pool then it becomes a dedicated server, at the time of swimming competition pool is divided by rope which becomes your VPS to swim in the allotted space, and when each and every one from your society come to swim in the pool it becomes shared server. that's how it happens with the dedicated servers, To make you understand I have made server as swimming pool.

For many purposes they are functionally equivalent to a dedicated physical server, and being software defined are able to be much more easily created and configured.
They are priced much lower than an equivalent physical server, but as they share the underlying physical hardware with other VPSs, performance may be lower, and may depend on the workload of other instances on the same hardware node.
great and really inspired by your answer

VPS hosting is a Virtual Private Server, and is a virtualized server. A VPS hosting environment mimics a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It is technically both shared hosting and dedicated hosting.
