    One of the basic domain name rules is that your domain name should consist of at least 3 characters and no more than 63. That includes letters, numbers and hyphens (-). Your domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen but can contain one or more hyphens.

    While generally speaking a short domain name is best, there are some exceptions to this guideline you should bear in mind.
    The "short is good" mantra is true to a degree, but registration of a short address needs to be a decision based on a more holistic approach.
    For instance, consider these two examples of web addresses left of the dot.
