When it comes to choosing an OS for a serve, a lot of people will tell you to go with Linux without a second thought. While we can't deny the fact that Linux is by far the most popular choice these days. Linux is an open-source OS that is widely used by developers.

Windows is the most popular OS on the planet, Windows is much easier to configure and set up than Linux. It is easier to use the .NET framework. Developing web applications using the .net framework is much easier in a Windows-based environment.

Windows is used widely than linux OS globally. But each operating system has its cons & pros. Moreover, server hosting providers use both for cloud, vps & dedicated server hosting. If you are opting out for managed hosting services then you need not worry. The server hosting provider usually has skilled technical team which takes care of all these services.

Choosing the platform depends on the type of application or website you will be hosting. If you have or microsoft softwares based applications or website then windows platform is the apt.
For reasonable hosting then linux hosting is better. As windows hosting is costlier.

No doubt Linux due to security. If you are technical enough to managed all the server level operations then you can pick any cloud provider like: Vultr,Linode, AWS, GCE, Kyup and DigitalOcean by setting up your custom setting. But if you are less technical then I would recommend to go with managed hosting to make the whole process smooth within few clicks. All the best
