You think links actually count in SEO?

Our rival has pushed us behind in the Google rankings recently. I really did not understand how it works. I saw that his site has a graphics without any incorporation of the alt tag. There is no text links with keywords. I did not find the title to be impressive. The only thing that was in his favor was the amount of inbound links. However, we had more inbounds links than them. Still, we were pushed down from first rank to the tenth. And they ranked on the first page. What has been the problem for drop in the ranking? If there is any area that I have overlooked, please inform me.

There are really over 200 factors that affect the actually rankings of sites on search engine results pages. Your competition might have satisfied the most than yours. Most importantly, on the observation you handed, it might had appeared that your competition had less inbound links compared to yours but checking really does not end there. Your competition might have gathered good backlink contributors over time. What I am trying to note is, if we check on the IPs of the backlinks each of you has, will the story be the same? I doubt. Another thing, if we check on the ages of the backlinks each of you has, will your site stand out? Think again. Another thing, if we check on the strength each of the backlinks each of your site has, will your site kick the competition out? Think twice.

Simply counting the backlinks isn't the determining the factor for good rankings. What is more important is the core of these backlinks, the thing that google bot sees. And now that you have an idea, run site analysis again as well as competitor check.

Backlinks matters for search ranking. Competitor may have more quality links than you have. Other factors like Contents and onpage also effects search ranking.

You should have someone to analyze your competitors backlinks and need to check that from which websites they are getting links for their site. If they are doing strong link building than yourself then you need to start working on the strong/quality link building direction to lookout the ranking and to get yourself back to page 1

Quality back links are always beneficial to improve serp's of site as well as PR. Back links from high PR do follow sites are useful as well as quality content for increase site ranking.
