I agree on everything, but I have a point to add. More often I see webdevelopers not paying attention much on keyword density. There are many posts on other forums, that say google, has downgraded the points they add on keyword density.

What is your opinion?

It is a must to maintain a proper keyword density. If not, of course Google will down rate you! Besides, keywords must be introduced into a proper content and it looks so stuffy and hard to read, boring you might say it so, when you find some words spelled too many times. This is not SEO, it's a method to vanish visitors from your website. The density of these keywords should be 2%, not much, not less!

The keywords that you should be selecting should be have high visitors and low competition. Now you will be wondering that how are both these possible at the same time.The strategy should be that you should select long tail keywords, which should have the keywords that we were actually looking to target at the starting and target those as targeting that keyword will also affect the performance of the main keyword that we were looking for at the starting.

Where your keywords are placed on a page is very important. For example, in most engines, placing the keywords in the Title of the page, or in the Heading tags will give it more relevancy. we should select mixture of key words like both long tail and short head, more over we should keep standard density in mind and should not stuff the keywords in on page optimization
