The thing with this though, is that you would have to pay for the hosting and the hosts offering a free domain usually try to tie you down to a minimum term contract and often have higher prices in order to recoup the cost of the domain.

With this in mind, you may aswell shell out the money upfront for a domain, if only a .info.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. I have seen some domains go for free at Namepros; but they were close to expiring; so you would still have to pay the renewel fee. As I said; there is no such thing as a free lunch. (or a free domain)
