  • length of domain name

    Hi,

what is do you think the best length for a domain name? I have noticed that LLL domains sell a lot these days and I wonder if the less characters the domain has the better it is. What do you think

    Re: length of domain name

personally i think that 3 or 4 letter domains sell the beswt but they still have to be of a good quality and catchy. long doamins with a - in them are worth less, but can still be of some value.

Well, 3 letter .com and .net domains now sell for high $xx - high $xx,xxx (or even much more if the domain is something like sex.com or sex.net...).
4 letter domains also sell for good prices if they stand for something, and even if they don't they still sell for mid $xx at least if the domain is a .com.

On the other hand, long domains with no dashes in them could have a great value if it is a 2-3 great-keyword name! Such as WebHostingTalk...

Hm, would you buy bznv.com for mid $xx? it's not a great one but also not of the worst ones. And probably could stand for something...

          Re: length of domain name

I think that the shortest domains like LLL are the best for selling now if there is no significance of the domain name meaning. But as some stats show the best sellers are not LLL names (with an exceptions of sex.com). So I think that there could be a balance between the length and the meaning.

I bought cricketdiscussion.com some time back despite its length because I thought it was an obvious domain for discussing the sport of cricket. Did I make a mistake?

It seems like a good one for a cricker forum. There are quite a lot results in google so you could hope for a fair price from an interested party.
