Why is INFO domain cheap?

This has been bugging me on the very first time I registered a domain.
I'm wondering why INFO domains are cheap, regularly $0.99, compared to other domain names like COM or NET?

In comparison to COM and NET , INFO is less used so it may be cheap then others.

There is very less demand for .info TLD and that's why its very cheap. I think the less demand is because of the main reason that .info websites are not ranking higher in search results. All search engines are giving more importance to other TLDs than .info for the similar website content, backlinks and all other quality stuffs that a search engine consider for domain ranking.

I agree that the low price is the consequence of low demand. There are no more explanations for that.

No demand but why? From what I can see is that the 4 letters is far too long and it just doesn't slow like a .com does.

When people say it, it just doesn't flow out naturally I think. Think of it like this:

"apple dot com" and "apple dot info"

Just doesn't sound right I think and the extra letter is a huge turn off. That said, I do have some registered with my host because they are cheap. Mind as well get the .info if you have the .com's, .net's, and .org's.

I think the less request is a direct result of the fundamental reason that .information sites are not positioning higher in list items. All web crawlers are giving more significance to different TLDs than .data for the comparative site content, backlinks and all other quality stuffs that a web crawler consider for space positioning.
