Godaddy is an excellent place to register domains and their hosting is fine if you can live with the limitations imposed by their control panel.

1 & 1 is an abomination in all things.

From my experience, GoDaddy is not so good for hosting. but to buy domain names it is okay.

I have a lot of experience with godaddy domain buy as well as
hosting accounts.
Must say that I'm very satisfied with support.
They reply within 12 hours.
If You buy linux account they have a bunch of open source scripts easy to install.

Well, I have been with Yahoo! Domains for almost 2 years now... Never had any problems...
Not for hosting... just the domains...

A friend of mine had something like 20Gb of space as he was running a fileupload site, and was hosted on GoDaddy.. But one day, they suddenly pulled off his site claiming that his site was taking too much load on the servers and that he had to move whatever be the case... And he lost loads of traffic, and google PR as well
but GoDaddy domains have always been the first choice of many of my friends who swear by them...

Perhaps they need to switch people from GoDaddy Domains to GoDaddy hosing?

Never tried 1and1, but I can totally say that godaddy sucks.
Their software is 10 years old. No Cpanel, no real tracking tools, nothing.
Godaddy are only good for domains, but suck at anything else.

I also have tried theme and do not rate them as highly as others. I am a big fan of Namecheap!

i asked this on another forum and someone replied.

"there main product is selling domains, go for a company which main product is hosting"

and another reply said

"its like buying a car from a petrol station". At the end of the day its your decision mate.

I'd say both services are not so good. I'd go with godaddy maybe for a domain, but not for hosting. 1and1 is very bad from my experiences for both domains + hosting.
