Use ahrefs or other free tools to check directory before submitting. That's what I would do.

Some directories overdo their directives, some directories offer even the inclusion but without website. Those are more healthy but won't help in ranking.
Directories are not even meant to help ranking as they display Business addresses in all kind of industries.
I know of directories with over 6 mio companies included = https://www.acompio.us

That is one heck of a number in business directories.

You mean directory that is used for directory submission?
For me, even before the only directory I considered are yahoo directory and dmoz.

DMOZ unfortunately went away,
IMO due to their inactivity and stubbornness to allow for more editors.

Yahoo seems to go the same way, Yahoo did not find their core in this case they tried to be a press portal more than a search engine.
