  • How do you get Google to index your blog?

Google loves blogs, but there are several DIFFERENT ways that a blog can be indexed by Google, and thereby found by people. First, just having a blog and promoting it on your website - in and of itself- can make it findable on Google. In this instance, you just define your target keyword, put it in the right tag positions (TITLE tag, META DESCRIPTION tag, H1, IMG ALT, etc.), BUILD links to it / get others to link to it, make it ONE click from your home page, etc., etc. - basically ALL of the tips and tricks for SEO that I teach in my classes. So then your blog should begin to show on your target searches. In this sense, a blog post (e.g., WordPress blog post) is just like any other page on the Web; Google finds it, understands the keywords and ranks it based on on- and off-page SEO.Second, you can have your blog show up on Google blog search. (http://www.google.com/blogsearch). This also means the website will show if someone is smart enough to use the 'blog tab' on Google. You can submit your blog to Google using this link - However, I do NOT feel that many people search Google blog (vs. the regular search), so I recommend NOT submitting your blog if you are aiming for SEO purposes. However, being in the blog search does mean that your items get pushed out via email alerts (Google alerts); so there is a trade-off there.
Finally, people can 'suscribe' to your blog via RSS. In this case, just Google RSS and you'll find widgets for WordPress and other blog platforms to add RSS to your blog. This isn't really about Google / SEO but rather just about having subscribers.
