My experience has been generally very good with free hosting.

One thing I must say about free hosting is that you must look through and find out about a free host a little bit. Don't just take the first one you see, because 9 times out of 10 it'll be a bad one.

With that being said, I have had a number of free hosting companies that have been very good. Usually the ones that tend to be the best are the Post2Host ones, because they stay up the longest, have the best uptime, and in general have a better quality of service. (usually no ads on your site).

Sometimes you have luck with a free hosting account.
Free is not 100% recommended but help is you dont have money to buy a hosting package

When i first started a website, i started using a free web host. At first it seemed okay but then they started putting too much people on each server and everything started to load slower then normal and then more frequent downtime started occuring. At the end of the month i ended up moving to a payed host. I seriously dont recommend free hosting to anyone with the experience i had.

It's best if you plan for a long term, get a paid hosting, so you don't have any trouble transferring files to new web host.
I used to have one, but then I forgot my password and login username.

Well my last experience is not 100% good, cpanel works but email has problems, also support is not good.
At beginning this free hosting service looks pretty good but I was wrong

Good thread.I never had any bitter experience with free hosting except for irritating ads.These days lot of them offer free hosting without ads even. Yet to find a site that matches my requirements

Downtime all the time, No security, alot of times they don't even provide you with backups, But if its with cPanel it could be ok. Very low on alot of things.

Like I said before, in an earlier post, this is not necesarily always the case. It really depends on the free host. You can find several that are up almost 100% of the time, and work really well.

Free hosting i used in the past was gennerally were of good service. I did not encountered much problems but while using a free hosting one should always keep in mind your site and files re never 100% secure. So sometimes it maybe uncomfortable.

Hi bordello, well i use much times the free hosting, i have a good experience, i use one account with over 1 year in a free hosting with no problems.
One time i start to pay one host, well... 2 months later the Owner close the host and i dont have time to make the backups and loose my sites and losse moneys.
If you will got a free host, try to get some host where have a forum with adsense, and you will click everyday in adsense to help the server.
When i enter in free host with post needed i don´t have any problem with then.

So i ahve a very good experience with free hosting ^^

I haven't had much enjoyment or success with the one I used.

Apart from the fact that I couldn't use the domain name I had and wanted to use on it, the amount of ad's which were placed on my sites pages was ridiculous. I perhaps should of researched them a bit better, it was a site I wanted to 'test the water' with and so thought it a good idea.

Around 20% of the time the site was down and when I emailed the tech support section, it would take over 48 hours to get a useless response.

I got my own hosting account now and would never use a free one again.

Free hosting is something really great. It really helps people to hoist their views on the web. Some may not bo able to afford it. So it is really helpful for them..

Well for newbies it's great to get their feet wet in the internet world.

But nowadays I feel blogs have taken over free hosting. As blogs are more search engine friendly plus the biggest advantage of blogs is the ease of content management. Any one without the knowledge of HTML or frontpage, dreamweaver etc can start their own site with the help of blogs

However if you are looking to start some thing professional related to business than forget free hosting and blogs. Go get yourself a paid host, designers and programmers. This will benefit your business.
