is computer memory effects on speed?

Many software's work on 1GB ram.Is there any problem if we run them on small ram.......My friend says," yes, it'll create problem..but do not worry this problem will solve just after upgrade computer memory...Although i have already upgraded computer memory from memoryx.net still asking............

Yes your RAM does effect on your pc speed. I have 1GB RAM. My computer speed is very nice.
