Is do-follow or no-follow article submission is still worthy for website promotion?

When Google Panda update released, many of article submission websites were penalized. from that time i am avoiding article submission for my website. But some days ago i did backlink analysis of my competitors website. I found several article submission backlinks pointing my competitors website. Some of the articles posted in 2005 to 2010. can this be the reason so that my competitors website ranking higher than mine?

Is do-follow or no-follow article submission is still worthy for website promotion? Will my competitors websites hit in future (as some similar articles they have posted on 5 article submission sites)? Can someone please explain me.

Note: Please don't give one liner answer. I want some descriptive answers with source or any example. Thanks in advance

Yes Backlinks of Article Websites are still worthy but it is possible when you are building backlinks with trust-worthy Article Directory Website.
No-Follow Link is also valuable because you have to build backlinks in the ration of 80-20 for do-follow and no-follow backlinks respectively. And also No-follow link helps to increase traffic to our website.
Few years ago, It was possible to submit same article in all directories but according to recent updates of Google you should submit only one Article in one directory i.e. There must not be duplicacy for any article.

As far as the back links from article sites back in 2005 and 2010 there may be possibility that someone post the article on behalf of you copying it from one of the article sites you have posted your articles on those times. No worries about it. Google knows very well about those sites.

As far no follow and do follow are concerns, both are important if coming from the trust worthy and quality sites. But keep a minimum ratio between both because entirely do follow links would harm your reputations.

Now the article submissions. In my views it still helpful for generating back links if the articles are written in most relevant and trustworthy mood. The article should not be copies from any site and pasted as it is. Do write some good articles, check plagiarism and any errors and then post on article sites. Keep it in your experience and you would get the results.

One more question, can you please give me example of some good article websites (give me 2 or 3 article submission websites name or link) which you think (or using) are still good for generating back-link?

Hello Friend, it is always and will be the effective and good way to get benefit from article directory and/ or article submission. And as per my opinion there is no such parameters that define the percentage of do-follow and no-follow links to your site, yet it is important to balance both do-follow and no-follow links. And there is no update or penalty decided for "Duplicate Content", there are myths, that you get penalize because of duplicate content, in today's scenario it is not true, i can't guarantee for future, when it comes to duplicate content, Google will only not going to rank your content, and now if the original content has the verified author profile, then the original content will get the benefit, for every time the article is posted somewhere else.

Ans stop thinking about your competitor, do focus on your SEO tactics and work to get better traffic and SERP
