301 - This and all future requests should be directed to the given URI.
302 - This is an example of industry practice contradicting the standard. The HTTP/1.0 specification (RFC 1945) required the client to perform a temporary redirect (the original describing phrase was "Moved Temporarily"),but popular browsers implemented 302 with the functionality of a 303 See Other.

A 301 redirect, or also known as a permanent redirect, should be put in place to permanently redirect a page. The word ‘permanent’ is there to imply that ALL qualities of the redirected page will be passed on to the detour page.A 301 redirect is implemented if the change you want to make is, well… permanent. The detour page now embodies the redirected page as if it was the former. A complete takeover.
A 302 redirect, or also known as a temporary redirect, should be put in place if you want to redirect your site visitors into another webpage but you plan to bring the redirected page back after some time. Knowing this, the 302 redirect will not pass on all qualities of the redirected page to the detour page.

A 301, or permanently moved, is a redirect that carries and distributes in an absolute manner. You should use a 301 to signify to the crawlers that your content has moved permanently – as in forever.
A 302 status code means Found, or more commonly referred to as “temporarily moved.” This redirect doesn’t carry or pass the link value to the new location. What it does do is get the user to an appropriate location for you so that you aren’t showing them a broken link, a 404 page not found, or an error page.

Redirection is the process of forwarding one URL to a different URL. There are three main kinds of redirects: 301, 302, and meta refresh.

The 301 reaction from the Web server ought to dependably incorporate an option URL to which redirection ought to happen. On the off chance that it does, a Web program will promptly retry the option URL. So you never really see a 301 slip in a Web program, unless maybe you have a degenerate redirection chain e.g. URL A sidetracks to URL B which thusly diverts back to URL A. In the event that your customer is not a Web program, it ought to carry on in the same route as a Web program i.e. promptly retry the option URL.
On the off chance that the Web server does not give back an option URL with the 301 reaction, then either the Web server sofware itself is flawed or the Webmaster has not set up the URL redirection effectively.

A 301 redirect tells the search engine that the page has moved permanently to the new URL. A 302 redirect tells the search engine that the move is only temporary, earch engines handle 301 redirects the same but Search engines handle 302 redirects very differently that's why i think 301 redirect is better.
