  • DMOZ benifits

I have been unsuccessfully trying to list my websites in DMOZ from last 1 year.

Since some say it adds US$500 to a domain's value if its listed in dmoz.

I am yet to explore all benefits of DMOZ.org listing, Ofcourse its a PR benifit, internal pages are upto PR7, But i am unsure if DMOZ gives any traffic as well?

Any of you got successfully listed in DMOZ? Whats the shortcut..

Well IMHO i think the only benefits you have if you have your domain in DMOZ are:

    1. Get a backlink and permanent link on one of the biggest directory and most of the pages have a good PR.
    2. Yes domain gets a value added. I still see people look for domains that are listed in DMOZ nut are expired.

I have not got successful for my personal sites in DMOZ but ya some client sites got approved.

DMOZ use to be the holy grail of directories and the most coveted to have. I stress the "use to be" part. Google no longer gives as much juice to them and they have had so many scandals that they are no longer sought after by the experienced webmasters.

IMO, I say you spend you time and energy seeking other back links and do not stress on getting into a old dinosaur directory.

Well, IMHO, I dont care if my websites are not listed in DMOZ. I am getting decent traffic and unique visitors to my website even though I have not listed my site in various PAID and FREE directories. I generally don't go chasing to get high PR but I would give much important to Traffic and unique visitors.

I dont think that they give any traffic, because everyone goes there to check his site in dmoz, not to search results for a keywords.

I think the primary benefit for being listed in DMOZ is bragging rights. I don't think you will get traffic from there but I do believe it does have some weight in the backlinks department.

I would like to be listed in DMOZ but it seems like playing the lottery unless you know someone maybe. I can't figure it out.

I don't think we have much of a choice because it doesn't seem to be working well anymore anyway.

When you get DMOz listed, you are automatically added to many more directories. And it is true that the value of website increases if it is DMOz listed.

I completely agree with you which is why it is so upsetting to be 100% legitimate and not be listed.

                          Directory Problems

I got free a free listing on longislandbusiness.com a couple of months ago. My site is coming up on page 1 on G for my keywords. My link building is all non paid and white hat. About 2 weeks ago my links went crazy adding hundreds of links in a short period of time. At he same time my G position started slipping. This directory is not ranked too highly and I learned that they started featuring my as a link on every page of their site. Can this be doing the damage? So many low quality links in such a short period of time. I only had about 1000 links when it started because it is a fairly new site.
                          Thanks

A link in DMOZ is just another backlink like any other directory. But, getting listed in DMOZ will pave you the way to get listed in google directory which is very good. The traffic you will get isn't impressive.

There aren't too many directories with a PR 0f 8 though. Your point about the Google Directory is a good one.
