Effectiveness of Directory Submissions?

DOes anyone actually get much traffic/Pagerank from directory submissions? I submitted my site to several directories and have never gotten any traffic, and Google has only picked up a handfull of links from them.

Yes, if the directory is popular and has high page rank value. You will not only get back link with high page rank value but also traffic from Directory submissions. But your site has to be approved in their listing before you can get any traffic or back link. Many people provide directory services submission but most of them require reciprocal links back or has to be validated manually.

I dont get much traffic from directories,but some is better than none in my book.Submit to reverent categories and you might see some SERPs out of it

It helps, but it takes time and patience. The more directories you submit your sites to, the higher the chance you have of having a better PR and a good placement in the serps. This will get your more site visitors.

I have heard that google has stopped giving importance to directories for page ranking. I dont know how true this is. Anyway good directries can be a good source of traffic to your website.

This is a game of patience. Directory Submission is the base of SEO and is very important though it doesn't brings a lot of traffic.If the directory is very good, you get good back links and traffic.
