Is it true that you will be penalized by google with duplicate content? or is it just a myth.

It is true i believe, thats why buying thousands of PLR blog posts and sticking them on your site might make you a quick $50 for about a few months or so, but then will be listed badly by google because they are generic articles

Placing Google ads on Duplicated contents is against the Google Adsense TOS and will lead you to suspension of your account.

It's not just a myth. Sites containing duplicate content will be removed from Google's search engine, and they will also not be allowed to display Google adsense ads.

i agree with you, but still i have a question: how can you protect your content? maybe i wrote that and the result is similar with other... what's my fault for this? it's there a rule saying that i have to copyscape my content?

Duplicate is a real issues with forums... It is because many think nothing of copying content from one website and posting it on a forum. It is also copy write infringement.

No one really know how google works but most of the time duplicate content will cause your website blog or what ever it is to rank bad because of the time people will spend on each page.
I read somewhere that search engines will rank you depending on how long people spend on your website. That too could be a myth

Yeah I have also heard it from many webmaster but never get the proof. So unless and untill you have something which prove this will be a myth only.

Duplicate content is a problem but not as much as many think it is. I read a comment recently on Matt Cutts blog where he says they do a very good job of figuring out who originated the content.

But he didn't explain Google's view about duplicate content on the same website.

Myth turn into reality when you feel yourself. All say Ghost is a myth but when you will see your self Ghost become realituy. Similar is the case with Duplicate Contain and Google.

One thing is sure that if you will use copy and paste job to get contain into your site than this is not at all good idea.

I read a post recently on Matt Cutt's blog where he indicated that search engines are doing a really good job at figuring out who owns the content...
Better for everyone involved not to have duplicate content.

no it is not a myth Google will be penalizing sites with duplicate content.
The sites will not be shown in search.But than issue again arises how to stop some one from copying
