Hi,
Google is the world's premiere search engine and currently is accounts for about 70% of the total online searches. Different people need a website for different reasons but if your intent is to find customers, clients, or gain any form of attention then you should start focusing on getting your site to rank high in Google. The internet started small but it now contains more information than anyone can imagine consuming and because of this it has become a necessity for it to be organized as best as possible. That's where search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing come into play. Learning to optimize your site will increase your search engine position and put you in front of more people. SEO or search engine optimization is a lifesaver for those of us who don't have a huge budget to pay experts to advertise our sites for us. However, many people don't really get SEO and end up doing the wrong things. This article will be discussing some of the common mistakes that occur when you're trying to optimize your site.
Graphics and images are a good way to give your site instant appeal, but be careful about putting too many on your site or you'll be damaging your SEO efforts. In fact, you could reduce your search engine rankings by having too many graphics and not enough content, which is what the search engines are looking for. When you see text written on images, it's not going to have the same impact as the plain text within your site's pages. Search engines aren't able to read images, so if your navigation links to other pages in your site are written on images, they're useless for SEO purposes. If you really do want to use images, you should have your main keywords in the image's ALT attribute. Search engines are able to read the ALT tags attributed to images and graphics, which can give your rankings a bit of a boost. You should never commit the blunder of taking text that's not yours from various other sites, as that's not morally correct. If you copy content, you won't get far. It may appear as though there are no repercussions at first, but it will hurt you once someone discovers that you've stolen your content. The other reason why it's a good idea to stay away from this is due to the fact that search engines now know when content has been replicated. Your site will stick in the filter that's reserved for double content and that will not rank you very high. This is why it's important to use content that both visitors and the search engines will like.
Just remember that ethics is something you always want to use with SEO. Nowadays, you find a number of companies who aim at providing SEO services. Some of these companies are definitely worth working with since they use practical ethical SEO methods, but many others depend on unethical or black-hat SEO to get sites ranked. Search engines are notorious for banning sites with no notice. Therefore, if you want to hire a person or company for their SEO abilities, work only with those people who are reputable and will update you often on the results. If they hide anything from you, they're not the right ones to work with.
