Keyword Density

I was having a conversation with another webmaster I know this evening, who mentioned that the new search methods that MSN and Yahoo use place a lot of emphasis on having a high keyword density. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this? If so wouldn't Google penalise against it and then again there must be a balance?

Keywords should appear often in your webpage, but not so often that readers feel unconfortable reading it.

Keywords should to added to your pages in a sensible way. if u have Good content that what all need.

You also have to use keywords on your Title, H tags, Alt text for images. They all help.

I stopped worrying about that a long time ago. I used to try to optimize for at least 20% keyword density/ article, but often they just looked spammy to the reader because of all the repetition. Now I concentrate on the reader, and it's really paying off.

I think keyword density is 5% - 11%

Every search engine, Google, Yahoo, MSN, and all others, have different keyword calculation. Search engines like Yahoo and MSN permit more keywords and higher density, but some search engines like Google, are stricter and allow lower density levels.

Placing of keywords in different locations has different results, depending on the search engine.

Google being strict doesn't allow more than 2% of the words in a web page to be targeted keywords. If you have more than that, Google considers it as spamming, whereas in Yahoo and MSN I am not sure, but I think it is 5%.

That should give you some idea when dealing with the different search engines.
