I know that backlinks are key in good SEO, but I hate submitting links to directory after directory. I know forums are a great way to build links as well, but what other options are there available. Anything creative even?

Let me tell you an easy way to submit to directories.

Install Firefox browser, install the fireform extension. Enter the details. Now you can fill the directory forms with just one click.

if you are lazy to submit links you can buy them. you cant have result by doing nothing more u do better yr site rank and traffic would be.

I use the Mozilla Plug in as well and makes the process soo much more tolerable.

There are so many directories out there, it really does get repetitive, but using the plug-in , you can get into a rhythm and do around 100 an hour.

That's cool IMO, 100 an hour is a good use of your time. I did 4 hours a couple days back, boring, but once it's done, you are glad you did it and can then move onto something more interesting.

You could always pay somebody to submit your site to directories.

Articles are pretty good for building links.

Some people can submit your URL to directories for money. If you find manual submission to directories boring, you can try submitting your website to social bookmarking sites. U will get something different to do and you can get loads of traffic if your website becomes popular. Try some sites like furl, stubled upon, etc.

I think if you really want your site "out there" you've got to do the work needed to build it up. That's what gives some people the edge over others... the work they are willing to put in to build up their site.
I had to submit mine manually to a few directories. Some were worth it some weren't but overall it really helped me out a ton. In the process I learned a lot of things to keep in mine when sites are spidering my blog and because of that I've really benefited.
