E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fundraising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer could be considered e-mail marketing. However, the term is usually used to refer to:

* Sending e-mails with the purpose of enhancing the relationship of a merchant with its current or old customers and to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
* Sending e-mails with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing old customers to buy something immediately.
* Adding advertisements in e-mails sent by other companies to their customers

Email marketing as I think is not a good idea... many people will just report your mail junk or delete it without even reading..mas mailing will be detected as bulk junk emails and will be listed in other folder other than inbox.

Chuman...well..I disagree with you here...Now..It is not to say that I mass email...far from it. I have lists under 300 names that are responsive..open my emails..and actually purchase things! Imagine that. but That takes time..and unfortunately..many marketers bombard their lists ..almost daily...with offers. But if you approach it right...Email marketing can be very successful.

Email advertising is great for followup but for initial sales it doesn't always do well.

Mass email marketing is only acceptable if they choose to receive the emails. That's why many websites are offering free newsletter and ebooks.

Some great ideas attached. I always try to put the persons name in the subject and something that grabs their attention right away as you have one shot at getting them to open it.

To maximize the response is clearly a need for people exactly what you want to do. For example, if you are promoting a seminar, not just put the registration link in the email and hope for the best.Be sure to create a clear call to action within their marketing newsletters via email.
