How important is it to regularly update your content? If you have a site of basic information that really isn't time sensitive and isn't going to change, is this going to hurt your ranking?

(I'm not asking about the obvious benefits of fresh content for your visitors, I'm curious the effect it has on spiders)

I personally think fresh original content helps get your site spidered more by Google. Duplicate content however will have the opposite effect.

Search engines like fresh content and will visit your site more often but i do not believe that not changing anything on your site for a long time will hurt your ranking.
They are other things that may hurt you, duplicate content, redirection etc..

hi, unique content always has an important role in boosting page ranks and link building stuff. it makes the site more dynamic and unique.. try digging up for new stuff to put up on ur site. i m sure u ll help the optimization process

Definitely yes, Visitors will love your site if you update your content frequently and so will the spiders and SE robots because fresh content plays a high role in search engine rankings.

I agree that fresh content is importan to keep visitors coming back but it does not have nothing to do with PR and your position on SE.
They are other factors that have influence on PR and higher position.One of the most import are backlinks.

Yes espacially if you are blogging; I noticed that the more fresh contented i add to my blog, the more visitors came from google search engine; And the more content you have, more pages will be indexed by google so go on and add; Everyone loves it.

Google goes through your site if you update regularly. Also visitors come back more to see what's new on your site.

Google loves fresh content and this should lead to your site getting visited more often by their bot. More importantly is the importance of unique content so that you don't trip the duplicate content filter.

Yup fresh content will get you better rankings and is as important in my opinion as the backlinks you get for your site.

I know, it doesn’t have anything to do with PR and your position on SE but this is noting compared to the human interface with your site. I know Google is the best for a search no doubt but human interest is miles better when there’s a natural instinct to visit ones site. New content does that by 10 folds. I mean a human created Google = Human interest. Simple maths
