There is no magic number for percentage of keywords, but I've seen that even 5% can be too much.
anyway I truly don't think that you should pay attention to this anymore since keyword density is pretty much part of the seo myth.

Well don't worry much of the percetage. I have been searching it for a long time....

There is no golden percentage for succuss. There is only safe percentage. Everybody thinks it is 1% at least and 3% - 4.5% at most. After that 4.5% it start to look spammy. Below 1% it start to become unimportant word. But there is no written proof from google on that. Before the last update of google's algorithm, density mattered. After the update the algorithm give less weight on density. That means that it doesn't matter so much...

Many SEO Gurus say that keyword density is a bit of a myth. In my opinion you don't have to reach any special percentage, but I always try to keep the most important keywords at a percentage over the other words. It dosn't have to be 3%, 4% or 5%. I know why you ask for proofs... It's very hard to start messing you texts just to raise the density. Also if you overdoit the text starts to look artificial.

There is also the factor that site writers are writing for 2 audiences-search engine and Potential Clients. Even if spammy test gets by the search engines you risk turning away the public. There needs to be a balance regardless.

I think that relevant keywords do need to appear on page but it is important to avoid spamminess. Good copy writers for the web know hoe to do this well.
