I know that no follow links add little value to the site but such links are still indexed somehow. That's for sure.

Well search engines don't count nofollow links for a particular reason. Perhaps a webmaster has told the search engines to not follow links on a particular page or to not follow a specific link. So it is said that Google just as a waste of time when you use no follow link for link building,it can't give importance to your site in terms of ranking and traffic.
