If we choose between social bookmarking and directory submission, so I think social bookmarking is the best as you can get some result quicker.

I guess it directory submission. Some social bookmarking sites do not provide tons of backlinks. While you can undoubtedly sap sweeter link juice from SB sites, they dont just make as many backlinks as when you make your campaign with DS. With the latter, you help your site get indexed faster so I guess Im going to prefer it. If you can do both, however, it'd be better.

I think directory submission is more useful to generate back links compare to social bookmarking if you submitted your site information in high PR do follow directory submission sites.

Both Are Not Effective

social bookmarking doesn't give much page rank because most of them are no follow and for the directory submission there are many few web directory with high page rank most of the web directories are not even crawled by google the best way is to do article marketing slow and effective.
