I agree with your opinion. Hidden texts are only identify by search engine spiders. It is one type of black hat technique. It is unethical technique which break SEO rules.

The text which is not visible to the user and hidden in the site code is known as hidden text. Its a black hat seo trick, you will get penalty for this so avoid it.
