How Frames hurt SEO?

[sharonjones]

First of all its called "iFrame". An iFrame is part of an HTML syntax that provides you with a way to embed content from another website inside your own website. So,
Search engines recognize the content in iFrames as coming from a different source, so your page doesn’t receive any SEO content credit.
Well if you are doing it properly it shouldn't hurt your SEO, it just won't give you benefit. But, a better question might be, when wouldn’t you want to use iFrames? Don’t use iFrames for pages that you want to rank really well for, like your main pages. The content embedded through iFrames won’t count on those pages, and will, therefore, make it difficult for you to rank well for them.
Hope it answers your question.

A self-hosted iframe can be crawled as on-page content. The text cache will show a blank page but the Google SERP description will show the iframe text, assuming the SERP description text is pulled from the web page instead of a meta description. Proof Google is currently parsing self-hosted iframes as on-page content.
