Wordpress Theme tools

I used the following free tools to develop my theme.

* GIMP – Free image editing software
* Cooltext online tool to create buttons and logo
* Notepad to edit css, php files
* W3C validator for XHTML and CSS validator
* Firebug add-on to inspect and modify stylesheets
* Browsershots – online service to check older browser compatibility
* YSlow addon for Firebug to test the page download speed
* SubmitExpress metatag analyzer to check the meta tags

I just use the premaid themes in wordpress, you can easily mess up the themes if you mess with them too much. I only make small alterations and only if necessary. Wordpress is great because they have so many tools available to you and more created everyday.

I knew a freeware program where users can easily create simply WP themes, but I forgot...

Your Word Press installation is going to need some sample, or dummy, content. Something to theme. In your Word Press admin navigate to Tools > Import and choose Word Press from the list of options. Now we only need a WXR post data file to import.

I would agree to the pre-made themes unless you want to customize your own theme then do it from scratch but with the help of a developer.
