Are Alexa's traffic rankings accurate?

Sites with relatively low traffic will not be accurately ranked by Alexa. Alexa’s data comes from a large sample of several million Alexa Toolbar users and other traffic data sources; however, the size of the Web and concentration of users on the most popular sites make it difficult to accurately determine the ranking of sites with fewer than 1,000 monthly visitors. Generally, traffic rankings of 100,000 and above should be regarded as not reliable. Conversely, the closer a site gets to #1, the more reliable its traffic ranking becomes.

i don`t thing so i never go for Alexa's traffic rankings because i saw so many website which are very well on google but they don`t have any good rank in the Alexa Ranking i always thought why it is important people why go for that can some answer me

Yes, alexa ranking is always accurate as this update everytime, you can check it ay time & you will get different details if the traffic increases or decreses.

A few of you have also gently reminded me that I need to update my aggregate look at the rankings results so that you have a current multi-year look at who the top sites are (here's a look at last year's aggregate RBs, for example). I really did intend to get this to you in June, but here we are at the end of July already. Pretty standard really. I will do my very best to get this aggregate ranking up for each position by next week, so stay tuned!

They are not very accurate. If you want to see accurate, use stat counter.

I have used AWStats and I think it shows exact traffic.

I started using AWStats from last month and I realized how important it is analyze traffic details. I haven't used Google Analytics. Is it good than AWStats?

Not accurate, it can be increased if you open the page many times with different ips and proxies, and like 95% of the internet users don't use alexa toolbar.

I use Statcounter to check on my traffic. It shows really good details and allow you to improve more by analyzing the report.
