    Re: Dedicated Servers

I don't think so. It is just that dedicated servers let you control the entire server and VPS is a part of a server.

            Re: Dedicated Servers

Dedicated servers are the same servers that hosts use for selling shared or reseller hosting. The difference is that the entire server is yours in a dedicated.

Often, the specs of a dedicated server might be *less* powerful than a shared server (at a quality host). Typically, hosts put extra RAM in shared servers that you might not need on your own server (depending on what your sites run). But unlike shared servers, you get all the resources on a dedicated server. So, instead of a small piece of 4GB or 8GB RAM, you get all of whatever you put on your server: 1GB, 2GB, or whatever. Same with CPU and bandwidth.

The reasons why you might want a dedicated are if you are using too much of the resources on a shared server or VPS, or if you just prefer having more control. Of course, both of these explain why dedicated servers cost much more than shared hosting.

Dedicated servers are for medium to Large Business.
A dedicate server is a single server dedicated to a single customer. Most appropriate for users that require lots of disk space or data transfer, as well as sites that are database intensive or have specific software requirements.

Sorry if this has been said but dedicated servers are the whole server and are usually faster and have larger bandwidth, although they cost more.

Dedicated server is better, but idà you don't need to many space and bandwidth as with dedicated server better use semi dedicated or VPS as well. It is actually the same.

                    Re: Dedicated Servers

VPS is the medium stage between shared and dedicated, it gives you the opportunity to learn the ropes without wetting your feet, if the VPS server is managed. VPS is usually a makeshift, as any mission-critical project should be hosted on dedicated plan to have ALL the resources at its disposal.
For those only learning server administration it's wiser to go for a host with VPS server management tutorials or actie forum where all the question can be answered. I think myriadnetwork can be a good example of it.http://forum.myriadnetwork.com/showthread.php?t=157

Look for a minimum uptime of 99%. In fact, even 99% is actually too low - it really should be 99.5% or higher. The host should provide some sort of refund (eg prorated refund or discount) if it falls below that figure.
