  • How to backup dedicated server with cPanel...

    Dear friends,
    Okay, here's my situation.
I use R1soft for offsite backups. For redundancy, I run a cPanel backup every day and store it in another location. That has been going great for me. However, recently I've had to move an extremely large MySQL table (table, not database) to an HDD instead of the SSD that all the other MySQL data on are on. After doing this, a cPanel backup crashes my server, presumably because of the large table on the HDD. My question is, how can I do cPanel backups while excluding that specific table? I've searched around for this and have yet been able to find a solution. I even tried to hire someone to write some sort of custom script for me, and have yet been able to find someone to do this.

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Try using ignore-table option. Google search "mysqldump backup exclude table".

    Hope this helps.

A full backup is a backup of all of your files, e-mail, databases, etc. To run a full backup, you can not download the full backup right away. The backup takes time to perform and the server will send you an email once the backup is ready to download.

      1. Click Backups
      2. Click Generate/ Download Full Backup
      3. In the drop down menu, select Home Directory
      4. In the box to the right of Email Address, type the email address where you will receive notification once the back up is done.
      5. Leave the rest of the settings blank.
      6. Click Generate back up.
      7. This will generate the back up for you and place the TAR.GZ file inside of your Home Directory.
      8. You can now download the backup via cpanel / FTP/ or SSH

If you would like to download the backup from cPanel (easiest way), please do the following:

      1. Click Backups
      2. Click Generate/Download a Full Backup
      3. Under "Backups Available for Download", click the link with the file name of the backup.
      4. It will then start to download.
      5. Select a destination on your PC for where you would like to save it to.
      6. Click Save

      Thanks

I guess the following should work

Go to the /home/user to which the database belongs
          Create a file named cpbackup-exclude.conf

Suppose the database that needs to be excluded is user_test. Then enter the following to cpbackup-exclude.conf

/var/lib/mysql/user_test (assuming this is the mysql database directory)

It works with a pkgacct, should go fine with cpbackup as well. Please give it a try.

If it completes successfully, and if you need the database backup, you can then put a script to take the database dump using mysqldump command. If you don't want to take the table backup, then --ignore-table is a good idea but that too works with mysqldump only
