I simply use a script which do most of task automatically and I don't need to check it by command but I received notification in my panel and If status cross emergency level then I got sms notification.

Its so easy.

If you have a dedicated server, you should probably monitor it. You need to configure a monitoring tool like nagios which helps you to keep an eye on your server even if you are not with your server , The tool will keep giving you alerts if anything happens.

You could learn, but you would be prone to mistakes that may actually end up costing you more money then just hiring someone to secure the server for you.OS and other software have to be re-installed and restored.
