It is a way of hosting a number of domains on a single server with each domain being treated separately. Virtual web hosting is not to be confused with virtual private server hosting, which has less number of tenants hosted on server and the user controls all software to be operated on that server OS.

A virtual hosting platform may be shared by different users or dedicated to a website, application or customer. In a shared virtual host platform, a provider’s physical server compute and storage resources are shared by two or more subscribers. Each host is provided with a predefined resource quota, which may be scaled according to provider and infrastructure capability.

Virtual hosting is a method for hosting multiple domain names (with separate handling of each name) on a single server (or pool of servers). This allows one server to share its resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services provided to use the same host name.

The term virtual hosting should imply, however, that while you share the web server it looks from the outside world that you are the only web site on that server. That means that with virtual hosting you should not only have your own IP address, but also a dedicated bandwidth to the Internet and a dedicated slice of the computers processing power. So, if a web hosting provider uses the term virtual hosting, have a close look if these features are offered before you decide on paying a premium price above standard shared hosting.
                    This seems a cool information.
