Sorry to hear hard life you had with corncobs for tissue papers. Hope you got used to tissue papers without any problems after you had moved from the farm.

Thought you were making a joke so I replied in kind.
Cron jobs are used to automate some tasks at a website. An example would be a cron job runs at midnight to remove all expired listings from a database. Another example might be to query the database once per hour and update a high score or new post list.
Cron jobs are not supported on many budget priced shared hosting accounts. A lot of the newer scripts build in a "fake cron" routine that does the same thing when a regular script is executed.
I personally do not use any cron jobs.Comment

Yeah I use cron jobs to automate database backups. I get my backups sent to me via email

Some script also use cron jobs to update data within the program. For instance, a forum may prune out all the posts older than 2 months by nightly going through them and deleting them using a cron task. At work, we used cron tasks to compile all the data into downloadable packets for the clients.Comment
