Swap memory issue

Hey,

I am using a server with 4 gigs of ram and with 1 gig of swap memory. But recently swap memory gets fulled pretty fast.

For example, i cleaned my swap memory this morning, 10 hours past and its %100 again.

Is there a way to find what is causing swap memory get %100 ?

Normally, swap memory should decrease when it's not in use but it just stays at %100 till i give swapoff and swapon command.

The amount of applicationands information that can be loaded into remembrance can be better than the physical RAM in the machine with VM, since applications in order that are not actively being used are swap to floppy (hence the term swap space).

Swap is useful because applications that aren't being used can be stored on disk until they are used. Then they can be "paged in" and run normally again. While it is not in memory, though, the OS can use that memory for something else, like disk cache. So it's a very useful feature, but if you don't have enough physical memory to run your program, you definitely need more memory. Fortunately, memory is really really cheap these days.
