It's the same thing, no? VPS is short for Virtual Private Server and VDS is short for Virtual Dedicated Server.
It's just two different ways to say the same thing.
    Check Wikipedia for confirmation.

A virtual dedicated server offers the deftness of an entirely isolated virtual server. It has the power to execute multiple OSs. A VDS is a complete machine over which users have undivided control of. VDS packages have devoted resources and so they never lag, even while neighboring servers execute at peak levels. Improved performance and a lot of flexibility appeal a lot of users to the VDS hosting platform. The chief benefit of VDS is that irrespective of whether traffic is peaking for the additional instances, you will not develop any fall back time on your server. In VDS, the resources that are apportioned are secured, so the amount of instances set up on a dedicated hardware won’t go past the actual capacitance of the hardware.

VPS is also known as VDS (Virtual dedicated server) that performs to the user as a dedicated server but is actually installed on a computer shared by multiple Web sites.

They're two different terms for the same thing. Many years ago, some people called it a VDS, and some people called it a VPS, and the VPS term won. If anyone says that they are different, that's incorrect.

VPS is the abbreviation of virtual private server and VDS is that of virtual dedicated server. There is no difference between the terminologies as they are often used interchangeably.

Private and dedicated mean the same.

Even if you take the various VM platforms out of the equation, the two terms have become virtually identical in the mainstream (assuming that they ever had different meanings in the first place - I'm not so sure of that). Trying to distinguish between the two will probably do nothing more than confuse customers, especially when some less reputable hosts might just as soon call their oversold VPS platforms "VDS" just as a marketing ploy.
