A shared hosting package is quite cheap. A dedicated hosting server is one in which only one website is hosted on one server. The resources are available to the website all the time and are solely for that website. A dedicated server is quite expensive as compared to a shared hosting server. A VPS hosting package is between both shared hosting and dedicated server in features and also the cost.

The operating system and the installed services that are provided in a shared hosting server are solely the provider’s choice. Whereas in a VPS hosting package there are more than 30 Linux operating system templates to choose from. In a VPS hosting you can choose to install any service that you require. The inherent features of shared hosting make it difficult to secure completely. It is because multiple users have the permission to upload and download files and these files might be supporting the account of some other resource. So there is always a possibility that a malicious user might exploit the vulnerability and access the data of other users. There is not much difference between the control and customization that is offered by both dedicated hosting and VPS hosting. With a VPS hosting package you will not have to pay for resources that you are not using for your website.

A VPS hosting package is perfect for those websites which have dynamic content and experience a lot of traffic. Also if you have a large number of files on your website then VPS hosting is perfect for you. A VPS package is a powerful package and with it you can do a lot more than what shared hosting offers you and that too at a price which is lower than the dedicated hosting packages.

VPS hosting is much the same level with dedicated hosting, so you can create reseller accounts. However, if you are not familiar with VPS hosting/server, you should be careful when choosing a VPS hosting.

However, the new cloud VPS hosting environment has changed that perception somewhat, especially for the more experienced site owners that understand the need for instant expandability. VPS and dedicated hosting have some very striking similarities, and to the untrained eye they may appear to be exactly the same. Both hosting types allow for excellent site performance and are used by business professionals on a daily basis, and both hosting types are a step above shared hosting. However, there are some significant differences between the two. The following information outlines some of the basic differences between dedicated hosting and VPS hosting.

Fundamental Differences

Dedicated hosting is used to describe a server environment in which you are given access to a web server that is not being utilized by any other webmaster. VPS is a single machine split up into several "virtual" servers. This has become popular because dedicated servers are now so powerful as to outperform fully dedicated hardware from just a few years ago. So you still have neighbors, and it's not a machine all to yourself.

VPS is just like dedicated server. Both you have the root permission. Reseller hosting and shared hosting don't. But reseller hosting can create a shared hosting account.
