  • Should I update my hosting to VPS?

    Hello
I have some problems on CPU usage on my shared hosting, so should I update my hosting to VPS?
    what is your advice?

  • #2
A simple explanation for high CPU usage is that your account's site or sites receive a lot of traffic! If this is the case, you should contact your hosting provider to discuss possible upgrade options.
However, high CPU usage may be unintentional and caused by several other factors like comment spam etc.
If none of the previous scenarios apply to your account, it may just be outgrowing what a shared server can handle. You should consider upgrading to VPS.

The steps you will take to upgrade depend on the account to which you'd like to upgrade.

Ask your provider if he/she can tell you what exactly is causing this, could be just a bad plugin, adding resource is always not the fix

It is always better to upgrade your hosting plan from a shared to a VPS hosting. VPS hosting provides private hosting and is more secure for your online data and usage and you do not have to share the same server with other clients.

First, work out why it is loading slowly. Without knowing why it is loading slowly, there's no way to know if you need to move from shared hosting to a VPS or just to a better shared hosting account.

At the moment it looks like you're hosting with HostGator (or a HostGator reseller), so it could just be that you're on a server crammed full of cheap accounts.

Before looking at a VPS, consider two things:

            1) If you buy a small, cheap VPS, then it is probably going to be worse than shared hosting as you won't have much memory available for you. Depending on the service that you purchase, the technology used etc. your resources may also still be shared with other customers.
            2) If you aren't familiar with managing a server, then you are going to need to pay someone else to do it for you.

Basically VPS can give you flexibility, but they don't automatically give you a performance boost without spending more money.

                    Completely agree with @hnc_huong

It the investigation within your system that will give you the best results. Only when you are convinced that it is your site that is burning the CPU, then it's time to hop-on to a VPS..

You need to choose a VPS provider who's datacenter is geographically close to your target audience.
I am very pleased with Vpsnine.com. In dealing with a provider, I also have to keep in mind my customers, because I own a computer shop and I am often asked who I would recommend. The back up and quick responses to my emails are second to none.

I was using shared hosting for my website, at the starting point it works good but with time its goes worst at the time when any bulk user visit my site. Then i decide to choose the VPS hosting and now am happy with its results.
