What is the difference between VPN and VLAN ?

A VLAN makes it possible to team computer systems that are not really linked with the same change and make them act as if they were.
VPN is generally associated with technological innovation that allow company workers distant accessibility to company’s sources like computer file and email servers.

VPN is a method of creating a smaller sub-network on top of an existing bigger network while VLAN is a subcategory of VPN.
VLAN is used to group computers that are not usually within the same geography into the same broadcast domain while VPN is most commonly related to remote access to a company’s network.

VLAN: It is group of computers that can have same broadcast domain. So the group of computers in that particular VLAN can directly talk to each other.
VPN: It is used to communicate is a secure way in a non-secure environment.

VLAN is a subcategory of VPN and VPN is a means of creating a secured network for safe data transmission. A VLAN is basically a means to logically segregate networks without physically segregating them with various switches. A VPN is used to connect two points in a secured and encrypted tunnel.

Hi
VLAN
VLAN is a group of hosts that communicate with each other as if they are connected to the same switch (as if they were in the same domain), even if they are not. To avoid the need for VLAN computers, there is the same broadcast location in the same physical location, which allows the host to host instead of its physical location. There are two types of VLANs called Static VLAN and Dynamic VLAN. Static VLAN is VLAN which is configured manually by providing a name, VLAN ID (VID) and port assignment. Dynamic VLAN is created by storing the hardware addresses of the host device in a database so that the switch can switch the VLAN dynamically any time when the host is plugged in a switch.
VPN
VPN provides a safe way to connect to a private network through a public network that is not secure like the Internet, encrypted to maintain data security sent through unsafe public networks. VPN only allows authorized users to use it and it is done through authentication. Use VPN passwords, biometrics, etc. to authenticate their users. VPN is widely used by organizations to share their data and other network resources with workers located in telecommunication locations. The use of VPN will reduce the cost of an organization's network because it eliminates the need for leased lines to connect to the organization's network with offices located in remote locations. VPN may vary on the basis of factors such as the protocol used to send traffic, security provision, whether VPN provides a site or remote access etc.
Hope this helps you.

A VLAN is a subcategory of VPN. VPN is a technology that creates a virtual tunnel for secure data transmission over the Internet. ... A VPN operates in an insecure online environment. A VLAN is usually used to connect two devices when one of the devices can't establish an external connection (outside of the VLAN).
