A cloud server is a logical server that is built, hosted and delivered through a cloudcomputing platform over the Internet. Cloud servers possess and exhibit similar capabilities and functionality to a typical server but are accessed remotely from acloud service provider.

A Cloud server can be called as a VPS server but a VPS is not a cloud server. Below are some key differences between a cloud hosting & a VPS or VDS hosting. In a VPS hosting, one dedicated server (suppose a dedicated serverwith 64 GB RAM and resources) is partitioned into multipleservers.

Please check below Difference between Cloud Server and VPS:

            VPS:
            1. Instant Scalability
            2. To move VPS to another VPS is quickly ans Smooth
            3. Shared available resources, Memory, Processor speed

            Cloud Server VPS
            1. All available resources are intergrated
            2. Extremely flexible
            3. Available resources, Bandwidth and Memory utilization

Cloud Server is more dynamic and is expanding easily, in the VPS you have the limit which you are not able expand (except buying the other vps)

Cloud servers are similar to a VPS hosting environment. The key difference is that instead of having a single server that's dedicated to your site (as is the case with VPS), the resources are spread out amongst a bunch of different physical machines.

                      What Is VPS Hosting?

VPS servers are also known as Virtual Private Servers. This style of hosting is essentially one physical server, which is then divided into several smaller virtual servers. Each one of these virtual servers acts as its own dedicated server environment.
                      • VPS can be heavily customized.
                      • VPS also tends to have very high performance
                      • A VPS isn’t the most scalable solution.
                      • Lastly, a VPS is incredibly secure.

Cloud hosting offers many advantages over normal VPS or Semi-Dedicated server hosting services due to the number of servers that are being used for a single cluster, and if you or your business rely greatly on your website, is the best suitable option for you. The enhanced architecture powering Cloud hosting solution utilizes groups of high specification servers, network-attached storage devices to reliably serve every web page, and image of a website. Inside each storage device, drives are replicated to each other in a RAID configuration to create the first level of redundancy.

With Virtual Private server, you will not get guaranteed resources that you will pay for, which means other user of the VPS node could squeeze in on your allotted resources but this is not case with Cloud server, you will get the guaranteed amount of resources you are paying for and it's always available when you need them. In addition to all these features, you will also get the ability to customize the resources of Cloud server anytime. VPS is not at all reliable when compared to Cloud server because VPS is based on software virtualization platform. Each platform of servers have their merits and demerits but here there are no demerits of Cloud server, so now it depends on you whether to choose VPS or Cloud server after understanding the needs and the service that you are looking.

VPS (Virtual Private Servers) Hosting, sometimes also known as “Private Cloud”, is based on servers which are crafted using virtualization mechanism.
The architecture is one which has multiple individual dedicated slots on the same virtual machine. Each slot can be assigned to dedicated resources. Nonetheless, the technology generally works on a time-shared or resource-shared phenomenon.
One of the major disadvantages that are stopping the VPS hosting industry to reach to the next level is its vulnerability that can cause a particular slot or resource go down in any crash scenario and the application or website on that particular space will be unavailable with no redundant online availability unless and until the issue is fixed.
However, the rest of the applications on different slots will be up and running without any disruption in service.
But, there remains a possibility, although in exceptional cases, where a major trouble hitting a certain slot, such as unexpectedly excessive traffic on a random day or DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack, can cause the entire machine and the subsequent applications to go down as all the resources belong to the same machine.

However, VPS hosting does have some useful points as it brings the margin closer between the dedicated and shared hosting solutions.

                          Benefits of VPS Hosting
VPS hosting offers total and complete freedom. Free to manage your server as you like, you have access to everything and you can install all the software you need.
Hosting in VPS is very efficient. Unlike shared hosting, the VPS is not dependent on traffic or audience. You have your own resources and you are isolated from other servers.
Hosting in VPS is secure. All your files are private and inaccessible to other clients regardless of their rights on the server.

Cloud hosting is the top-of-the-line website (or application) hosting solution available presently. The technology has already achieved a tremendous level of acceptance in a short period of time.
Websites hosted on the cloud are accessible anytime, anywhere. This means that hosting resources for each website are replicated on every cloud server in the cluster. For example, if one cloud server has maximum traffic already, then it automatically routes the query for the specific site to the idle cloud server in the cluster.
In other words, cloud runs the web hosting services, like files storage, SSH, FTP, SFTP, and email services (for e.g. SMTP), etc., on many different servers simultaneously.
This simultaneous allocation of equal resources on the cloud servers in the cluster provides a great deal of reliability. For example, if one of the machines malfunctions, it will not cause failure or disruption in the entire hosting service.

                          Benefits of Cloud Hosting
Cloud hosting is relatively reliable because your website is hosted on a virtual partition that takes advantage of multiple physical networks. When one of the servers goes offline, it will slightly reduce the resource level to the cloud but will not add up to your website. No inaccessibility or anything else.
Cloud hosting is secured by many physical servers that are protected from third-parties who want to access their premises or interrupt their services.
Cloud hosting is extensible, flexible, and scalable. It does not have the same constraints as a single server. Resources are available according to your requests and in real time.
Cloud hosting is economical because you only pay for what you use.

Which Server to Choose? Cloud Hosting vs VPS Hosting
VPS hosting is generally less efficient since it allocates a specified amount of computing resources to each client. Hence, if the requirement increases, the system would not be able to handle the additional inflow. It will simply crash. Same would be the case if the server malfunctions.

Cloud hosting, on the other hand, tackles the increase differently. Under the cloud environment, the website is hosted on a pool of unified computing resources. This simply means that if one server is reaching its optimum level, then a second server is ready to function. Similarly, if a server fails, the website will still be running as other servers will continue to serve the incoming traffic.

If you want reliability and powerful functionality, then Cloud hosting is a great choice. The recent price slashes in cloud infrastructure from Amazon and the likes shows that the market has immense growth potential. Furthermore, it shows that cloud hosting is getting affordable too.

VPS is made for people who are interested in hosting just a website. While it is powerful, VPS does not guarantee uptime should your website fails due to high traffic or a technical glitch.

I hope this detailed information will be helpful to choose right hosting for you!

Many people consider VPS and Cloud server similar. But it’s untrue. VPS and Cloud server are very much different from each other. Let’s see what is a VPS server and cloud server to figure out the better one.

                            What is VPS Hosting?

VPS Hosting, also known as 'Private Cloud' is based on servers crafted using virtualisation mechanisms. In VPS hosting, various slots are created with each slot having its own resources. Hence, every user gets to use its own resources for proper functioning of VPS.

                            What is Cloud Hosting?

Cloud Hosting uses multiple physical servers to store the data instead of being stored in a single physical server. If any server is down or facing a heavy load, loading requests will automatically redirect to the other server to manage to speed. Thus, cloud hosting provides more flexibility and ensure better performance at a time of high traffic

Now let’s compare both Clouds hosting and VPS hosting on various parameters.

                            Performance :

No doubt, both VPS and Cloud hosting provide outstanding results. But when it comes to choosing between one of them, then Cloud hosting wins the battle. Cloud hosting data is stored in more than one server, so it will perform better at the time of heavy traffic than VPS Hosting. VPS may not be able to handle the surge of traffic than its capacity.

                            Scalability :

VPS provides a limited amount of scaling depending upon your host. You may access extra memory and CPU power above what is allotted to you. But it has a limit. If you need more scalability, you will need to sign up for a new plan. Cloud hosting in comparison, has much higher scalability with the ability to add capacity in real-time. In a way data storage is unlimited. This seamless availability of processing power is the most significant biggest advantage of cloud hosting

                            Security:

Both VPS and Cloud hosting is considered very effective in security measures. VPS almost works as if it is a separate server. Though one server is allotted to more than one client, the resources are separated by virtualization technology. This saves users from the threat of any malicious activities like hacking.

                            Cost:

In VPS hosting you get to use a fixed amount of resources and very low scalability. This generally results in a comparatively low cost than Cloud Hosting. While, In Cloud Hosting you are paying more for a lot of hardware, complex networking, and high uptime. There is also no limit set on how many resources you can use. You will use more resources at the time of high traffic. This will all result in high cost. So cloud hosting will cost you more than VPS

                            hosting

So, above are the main differences between VPS and Cloud hosting. Hope this has cleared all your doubts.

Cloud Servers is a term applied to any server that has the characteristics of a cloud i.e. on demand service, elasticity whereas virtual server is designed specifically for one user.
