Well for in my server hoster i am given a restore file that saves all my files. Idk about you but i believe you could do it manually by just saving the file of the web contain on your pc.

I'm doing local backups plus the host I'm using Ahosting.biz makes daily backups, but I'm told not to rely on the host in such a situation.

Well my host make backups but its recommended that you backup your data too. I mostly backup my changed files and database once a week if there is any change .

I have a permanent backup of files on my hard disk just in case if something bad happens. And I also make backup of MySQL databases by simply downloading their .gz file.

Backup at webhosting, then ftp to get it downloaded to my computer.
Finally write it on a dvd-rw disk.

I just drag everything off of my FTP and save it to an eternal drive, that seems to work pretty well

Yes, some friends do in this way.
They will buy another hard drive (D for data & system backup purpose.

I have all my data backed up on my desktop hdd, but I know some hosts offer backup services separately from hosting, is it the case with ahosting.biz?

Well I used to take only data base backup But I realized thats not enought for a forum. You need to take a full backup at least once a week.
