Well, for a low resource usage site and for personal use I would also recommend them. The problem with Hostgator, and all of the other hosts that oversell is that when you use slightly too much of the server resources they'll suspend you. They're not able to be flexible with that because there are typically quite a few accounts per server. It's not just hostgator, there are other who have this same business model. If you have busy forums or a busy site and need more resources, then a non-overselling host is really the way to go. Otherwise, you are correct in your recommendation.

I would not recommend going to host gator. My recommendation would be to go to an established company with not as many clients. It will make life much easier.
