  • Is a terabyte possible?

I am not a genius when it comes to hosting. But I am pretty good with computers. Is it even humanly possible to offer a TB of space? Have you ever seen a picture of that many harddrives? Your thoughts?

Of course it's possible, but it's just not practical, if you have a reseller account that you can give away that much space, first of all, why wouldn't you break it down into smaller amounts so you can offer more, and thus make more? But anyways, it just isn't practical.

It's generally a marketing ploy. They know that very few websites are a terabyte of information. Once you get up that high in drive space, you would most likely be using a lot of bandwidth as well and they would try to move you up to a dedicated server.

While a terabyte seems like a lot with hard drives, there are now 750gig and Terabyte drives, so they aren't as many needed as there were before.

Yes it is possible. You're most likely to get this amount of space with a dedicated server. I know many hosters that offer more than 2 Terabytes.

I was unaware of the TB drives and 750 gig drives. Though to me it still seems like so much space! Are their any known sites that acutally use that much space?

It's possible technically. I've got on my homepc 1TB hard drive and that's just a home drive. The technology has had very much of progress, so there are servers that can even have 2-3 TB. But dude, it's very expensive how ever, as that amount of data would need HUGE BW, which isn't so easy. But technically it's all possible.
