The biggest mistake many people do is look at the space and bandwidth, then the price and make their decision based on that. You have to take into consideration overselling as well, any host can offer 1000GB disk, 1000GB bandwidth for $2/mo, but they cant offer that, it's a false promise, deceptive advertising.

Second, you have to take into account quality and features. Is their disk space RAID protected in case of a HD failure? Is their bandwidth good quality (Tier 1 is best)? How fast are their servers? Do they offer any auto installers? Is their live support online? How is their uptime?

These are all important questions to ask that many overlook.

I'm always looking for the company's history. I absolutely need that company to be well known to ensure that I'm not getting ripped off. I use HostGator. Never had a problem. Be willing to pay for what you get.

It is true that web hosting reviews provide you better understanding. But when you host a domain kindly check the SLA & TOS of the web host.

First of all , I make sure it is cheap and not a rip-off . Secondly , I compare the features they are providing their customers with .. Because of huge competition b/w shared hosting companies .. they tend to increase your bandwidth usage etc but would remove certain features like video/audio streaming or won't support certain languages anymore.

I always make it a point to Live chat with the customer support to compare how good and fast their customer support is .
