  • how much downtime is ok

How much downtime do you accept from a hosting provider before finding a new host? What if you noticed downtime for a few minutes each week but that was all (could you live with that?)

If it's only a few minutes a week then probably as long as they have a good reason for it.

0.001% is only acceptable. If you are interested, the best uptime I have ever had was given by such host as a2hosting.com - never went down during a year I was hosted with.

Thanks for the input. I guess the problem with this hosting company is that they never give any reason for the downtime. They just say, No company can give you 100 percent uptime. I do not expect this, but when it happens on a weekly basis it seems a bit excessive.

No company can give you 100% uptime, though you don't expect this.To be honest ,that's the fact.If it possible,i think all the hosting provider want to promise you 100% uptime.

Not more than 0.1%. Web hosting server has to do some server maintenance so downtime is expected. Just get a hosting that has multiple servers around the world so when one of the server goes down, only one of your site will go down.

Some downtime is likely to be expected but I would not say every month. Perhaps once or twice every two or three months.

When they have downtime every week, then go overe with it! I experienced that in my old web host. So I left them.

                  99.9 or more

A few minutes per week would still keep them at 99.9 uptime. Its when it hits hours per week that I would leave.

Almost 0% downtime & 99.9% uptime it is the best proportion ratio.

I'd hate it even if it's only a few minutes a week. To me, it's okay when it's a few minutes per month at most.

So would I.. I mean its really annoying when my servers go down...

Once, I was changing something on my site.. And it knocked the whole MySQL off for the company...

                          Luckily it was free hosting!

99.9% tends to be the standard...

If there are 31,556,926 seconds in a year then with 99.9% uptime there is only 31,557 seconds of downtime which is 525.95 minutes of downtime or 8.76 hours of downtime a year. There will always be downtime with a server: You need to do reboots, upgrades, updates, etc.
