Customers from forums?

I'm really curious if you've ever signed a customer who found through searching forums. Me personally I search google and go from there.

Forum is a good place to find new clients ,also good for discussing and learning, such as this forum.So lots of people ,hosting providers and customers all join in forum discussion.

A good question. I do not participate to forums to get customers, but chat and socialize. But I'm sure that we got many customers from forums. If any web hosting provider is popular and people meet its representatives in the forums, they will be able to buy from the company.

There definitely are. Just that the topic of the forum thread should be as focused on web hosting as possible. So the ricochet traffic does convert.

I have a 1and1 managed server (I am now regretting not getting a root Linux server but that's besides the point). I recently wanted to install SugarCRM on it and ran into a few problems which I though I would share.

The first problem was getting the database settings right. Due to the way 1and1 set up their servers the hostname for the mysql server is listed as 'localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock#. This doesn't work when placed into the Sugar interface during the install. You have to manually edit the install.php and index.php files in the Sugar root directory and place the following line of code after the <?php and 'if(!defined('sugarEntry'))define('sugarEntry', true);' line.

This will help you get past the database settings page but then after that you are likely to get a bunch of chmod() errors. This is not technically due to the way 1and1 manages their file system and you can get around it by performing this change to the Sugar code...

Change line 196 of the file /include/utils/sugar_file_utils.php to the following: return true; //chmod($filename, $mode);

All of this is stuff I picked up from these forums in one place (and language) or another but I couldn't find the info listed in one place so I am placing it on here. Hope some people find it useful. I am sure it also applies to other hosts other than 1and1 as well.

I think it is useful forum for exchanging information, trying to find a solution to the problem being experienced..But you can promote your website..

Forums are a great place to meet new people. Share experiences and meet potential clients. I think this place has great value in the marketplace and for the consumer who can learn new things about the industry.

One small idea i can share is -
Google and search engine rankings can be influenced with various SEO tricks but the same can't be done within forums. When you search for a web host and its reviews in Google, you would usually land up in pages with good reviews which were optimized to top the results page.

But through forums you can find the correct reviews from users who have used the web host and had any good/bad experience with them. Many a times, customers to web hosting companies are directed from forums and not search engines, except for those who trust the SE rankings as the better way to find their web host.

Because many people looking all information or suggestion from forum...
