  • Transferring Wordpress Blog to New Host

    Hi,

I'm looking to move one of my self hosted wordpress blogs to a new hosting provider.

I know that I can easily do a backup and restore on the new installation and this will bring in the posts, tags, categories etc - but I was wondering if there was a way to transfer the domain to new hosting in such a way that it will pull all of my comments, images and theme across as well.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sam.

Transferring the domain do you mean simply changing the nameservers for you domain name?

If that is what you're referring to no that will not work. The easiest way to do it would be to backup the database in your control panel, and backup the theme that you're using. Once at you new host install a vanilla version of wordpress then drop in the database you backed up either through a db restore within wordpress or from within the control panel. After that's been completed you would restore you theme folder and activate it within wordpress.

This would provide you with a complete migration of you wordpress and all setting from your old host.

Do the backup in cpanel or directadmin and download that backup after just extract to the new host everything. After you will extract everything just follow those rules (but if only you changing your domain name): http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

Yes, if your web hosting service offers free data migration, then you can simply request it from your hosting service and they can transfer your website with the matter of minutes without loosing any data files.

Have you already found hosting provider?
Think that transferring your files from another hosting provider will be easy if you deal with 7host.com company, I have heard they are helpful and has stable servers.
Hope it will somehow help you.

If your old host and new host run the same control panel you should be able to copy abd download your site and move it over to your new host. If they are running different control panels you would need to download your site through ftp and reupload it then.

Guess plusplushosting.net would be a right place for the OP.
They support Wordpess on their servers and prices are modest on them.
